Admission in PhD programs at VUZF University is open to Bulgarian and foreign citizens holder of a Master"s degree without age restrictions. The admission and training of PhD students is carried out by the Doctoral Programs Board, the Research and Doctoral Training Center and the departments of the university.

The forms of studying are:

Admission procedure in individual form - for candidates who have a research proposal (draft dissertation of minimum 60 pages):

  1. Preparation of documents - APPLICATION to the Rector
  2. Submission of the documents to the Research and Doctoral Training Center.
  3. Verification of the Master's degree diploma and the academic transcript at NACID if the applicant is a graduate of a foreign university.
  4. Discussion of the research proposal/draft of dissertation in the relevant department.
  5. The Doctoral Programs Board approves the topic, the supervisor and an individual study plan.
  6. Order of the Rector for enrolment in a doctoral program of individual form of study.
  7. Signing of a training agreement.
  8. The training begins.

*VUZF University also accepts PhD candidates - candidates who do not have prepared in advance research proposal/draft dissertation. Such candidates receives methodological assistance from a scientific counselor in order to prepare a research proposal. After approval of the proposal, they are enrolled in doctoral studies in an individual form.

Admission procedure for PhD candidates:

  1. Preparation of documents - APPLICATION to the Rector
  2. Submission of documents to the Research and Doctoral Training Center.
  3. Verification of the Master"s degree diploma and the academic transcript at NACID if the applicant is a graduate of a foreign university.
  4. Examining the application in the relevant department and proposal to the Doctoral Programs Board.
  5. Discussion in the Doctoral Programs Board and appointment of a scientific counselor.
  6. Order of the Rector for admission for a PhD candidate.
  7. Signing an agreement for counseling and methodological assistance.

Admission procedure in full-time/part-time form:

  1. Announcement of the competition in the State Gazette and on the website of VUZF
  2. Preparation of documents - APPLICATION to the Rector
  3. Submission of the documents to the Research and Doctoral Training Center.
  4. Verification of the Master's degree diploma and the academic transcript at NACID if the applicant is a graduate of a foreign university.
  5. Competitive examinations (specialty examination and English language examination if the candidate has passed the specialty examination).
  6. The Doctoral Programs Board approves the topic, the supervisor and an individual study plan.
  7. Order of the Rector for admission to full-time/part-time studies.
  8. Signing of a training agreement.
  9. The training begins.
