Happy 8th birthday Higher School of Insurance and Finance!

Higher School of Insurance and Finance celebrates its 8th birthday on May 11, the day when the Orthodox Church celebrates the memory of Saints Cyril and Methodius.

Slavic teachers were canonized for saints by the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in the late 19th century In 1851 the diocesan school of “St. Cyril and St. Methodius” for the  first time  celebrated  the day as the Day of Bulgarian Education (May 24th - new style ). In the mid-nineteenth century the  holiday is celebrated in Russia and in Bulgaria in connection with the ongoing struggle for church independence.
On 11 May 1863 it is  established as a church celebration of the holy Apostles Cyril and Methodius.
After Liberation May 11 is established as the school holiday of the Slavic teachers. Then arises the idea of a holiday anthem. In 1892 Stoyan Mihajlovski wrote the anthem "Walk folks revived”. In May 1901 Panayot Pipkov wrote the music to the text.
With the introduction of the Gregorian calendar in 1916 the  festival, celebrated by the church and state, is now celebrated on May 24.
After 1969 is held artificial secularisation  by separation of church from secular calendar, so now we have two celebrations - Church (May 11) and secular (May 24).

St. Cyril and St. Methodius, known as Thessalonike brothers are Methodius and Konstantin Philosopher, creators and distributors of the first Slavonic alphabet - the Glagolitic. On behalf of Cyril is  named  the created later Cyrillic alphabet. They  were canonized as saints for the translation and dissemination of the Bible into Old Bulgarian language (gained popularity in its Russian version as: Church-Slavonic language) and spreading Christianity among the Slavs. They are considered Apostles. They were announced by the Pope for patrons of Europe. Orthodox Church  celebrated them  as one of the holy Seven saints.
