Ceremony of awarding the honorary academic title "Doctor Honoris Causa" of VUZF to Lucien Gijsens
On February 19th, 2016, at 11:30, at Hotel “Riu Resort Pravets”, city of Pravets will be held the solemn ceremony of awarding the honorary academic title “Doctor Honoris Causa” of VUZF to Mr. Lucien Gijsens, CEO of KBC Bank&Insirance, member of the Executive committee of KBC Group and chairman of the supervisory boards od DZI and CIBANK.
The event is jointly organized by the Higher School of Insurance and Finance and DZI.
The prize is awarded by a decision of the academic council of the university, taken on 26th of January this year, for the contribution of Lucien Gijsens in the management and development of the KBC Bank & Insurance and the creation of a joint master's program of VUZF and DZI - "Innovation and Business Processes insurance. "
The ceremony will be opened by the rector of VUZF Prof. Grigorii Vazov and Lucien Gijsens will deliver an academic speech on the topic "Bank-Insurance model of KBC".
Luc Gijsens professional path began in 1977, when he joined the Kredietbank NV Successively he held the positions of currency merchant bank representative and manager of branches in Hong Kong, Bahrain, Los Angeles and Antwerp. In 1994 he rose to general manager of the Kredietbank in Antwerp. After the merging of the bank with ABB-Insurance and CERA (Centrale Raiffeisenkas) Bank and the creation of the KBC Bank & Insurance Holding in 1998, in 2000 Gijsens became Senior General Manager of KBC Bank. From 2011 he is the CEO of KBC Bank & Insurance and Executive Board member of the KBC Group. Since 2014 he is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of CIBANK and DZI, which are part of the KBC Group.
The event will be attended by the management staff of VUZF, DZI and CIBANK, members of the academic council of the university, guests from the head office of KBC Group in Brussels.
Lucien Gijsens will be the seventh person awarded with the honorary title "Doctor Honoris Causa" of VUZF.
