According to the legend, Saint Nicholay is the patron of the bankers. Before he was canonized as a saint he was usurer, who helped the poor and penniless, and distributed wealth. But taking care that those who he did good to, didn't understand where it came from. Tradition says that Saint Nicholay threw three bags gold at the home of an impoverished merchant so that he could be able to marry his three daughters and save them from shame. After a 44-year break in 1992 the Association of Banks and the Bulgarian National Bank reimbursed the church tradition St. Nicholay' Day holiday to be celebrated as a holiday for banks and bankers. Higher School of Insurance and Finance congratulates all involved in banking.
